Embracing the Adventurous Spirit: TheTransition to Van Life

I stumbled upon a video of two "gals" in Canada that In the winter of 2019,  made the bold decision to leave the comforts of traditional living behind and embark on a new chapter of their lives – van life. Driven by a desire for adventure and a yearning to live more sustainably, they converted a van into their mobile home and set out to explore the vast landscapes of Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Guatemala.

The open road became their canvas, and they found themselves captivated by the freedom and self-reliance that van life offered. Their van, their home on wheels, became a symbol of the newfound independence and the embodiment of their dreams.

Discovering the Call of the Wild: Finding their Homestead

After years of chasing adventure on the open road, they found themselves drawn to the allure of a more permanent, self-sustaining lifestyle. The search for a piece of wilderness led them to a remote 15-acre plot of land in the heart of the Canadian wilderness. It was there, amidst the towering trees and the whispers of the wind, that they decided to embark on our next chapter – building an off-grid homestead.

Building from the Ground Up: Constructing the Off-Grid Cabin

The journey, that I was able to follow them on, to build an off-grid cabin, looked like   a true labor of love, filled with challenges and triumphs in equal measure. With no prior experience in construction, they set out to learn the skills necessary to transform their dream into reality. From sourcing materials to mastering the art of carpentry, every step of the process was a new adventure.

Embracing the Off-Grid Lifestyle: Powering their Homestead

At the heart of the off-grid homestead lies the challenge of establishing a self-sustaining power source. And here is where it gets really interesting.

Determined to live in harmony with the natural world, they set out to harness the power of renewable energy to fuel our cabin and our way of life.

The installation of solar panels and a battery bank became a crucial aspect of their homesteading journey. Through careful planning and experimentation, they learned to optimize their energy usage, finding ways to conserve and generate the power we needed to power the home, their tools, and their daily lives. This commitment to renewable energy not only reduced their environmental impact but also instilled a deep sense of self-reliance and connection to the natural rhythms of the surroundings.

Cultivating a Sustainable Future: Their Homesteading Endeavors

As they settled into our off-grid cabin, we follow them on their journey when they quickly realized that the journey was far from over. The path to self-sufficiency was paved with a multitude of new challenges, from establishing a reliable water source to growing their own food.

And I will spill no more beans except I will just say. For inspiration on the OffGrid living go in and watch their journey.
